A Bigger Bang (CD)
This has been called "their best album since Exile on Main Street", which seems like pushing it. Their best since Steel Wheels, maybe. Still, there's no denying it's actually pretty damn listenable, if completely unsurprising in sound. If I had to compare it to just one previous Stones album, it would, strangely enough, be 1966's Aftermath: like that epic, it's shot through with sardonic humour, oddly likeable ballads, lots of sex references and a streak of misogyny. Big Misfire: Keith's dull, dull, dull "Infamy", with a pun borrowed directly from Kenneth Williams (who woulda thunk it?).
