When Gorilla Biscuits put out Start Today, hardcore and New York hardcore in particular was in state of transition with lot of musicians moving on from the rebellious, aggressive, and upbeat music that is strived for here. Approaching the 1990s, slowing down of music had become the standard and most of the time, the passion and the energy that had made great hardcore music was being drowned in pretentiousness and further commercialisation. Breaking through dozens of soulless bands, Gorilla Biscuits, with their impeccable energy on this record, showed for the whole world to see that the hardcore spirit was not exhausted yet.
