Throughout Absolution's 14 cuts, Matt Bellamy's patented octave-skipping vocal histrionics and the trio's breath-taking dynamics propel songs which bridge gaps across the rock spectrum, from orchestral pop ("Blackout") to art-rock bombast ("Hysteria") and many points between. Bellamy's vocal style is smooth and self-assured, and he comes across like a sleazier Thom Yorke or Jeff Buckley, with sustained notes and vibrato soaring into the stratosphere.
