Rollin' : The Albums 1976 . 1978 = 5 CD Set = (CD)
"Rollin' - The Albums 1976 - 1978", a new 5-CD box set featuring all the Steve Gibbons Band albums recorded between 1976 and 1978, will be released in 2022. The legendary rock band was formed in the mid-1970s and consisted of some of the best musicians in the Birmingham rock scene.
Steve Gibbons had been well known on the Birmingham scene since the early 1960s. He was the frontman of The Uglys, which disbanded in late 1968. A year later, Gibbons formed the group Balls with Trevor Burton and Denny Laine, but they split up after a little more than a year. in 1971, Gibbons joined the final lineup of The Idle Race. Together with guitarists Dave Carroll and Bob Wilson, bassist and vocalist Trevor Burton and drummer Bob Lamb eventually evolved The Steve Gibbons Band. With this lineup, the band perfected their hard driving blend of rhythm and blues and rock, touring the pubs and clubs of the UK. in 1975, Peter Meaden (The Who's first manager) became aware of the band and soon took them into his management.
They released four albums between 1976 and 1978. The debut "Any Road Up" was released in 1976, the same year the band accompanied The Who on tour and opened for Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Nils Lofgren. 1977 saw the release of album number two, "Rollin' On," featuring the hit single "Tulane." In the same year came their concert album "Caught In The Act". A year later, in 1978, followed with "Down In The Bunker" their third studio long player, produced by Tony Visconti
