Bukka White is not my favorite country blues singer, but his style is really irresistible once you start listening. He has a very physical presence on these recordings and his aggressive style demands your attention. This is not a Mississippi John Hurt bedtime story. I've seen youtube videos of Bukka White just thrashing his guitar while playing, and a lot of that comes off on these songs. He really plays the strings hard and gets very into the music. Most of the time it's hard to tell what he's saying, but it's pretty incredible how connected he is to each song.
