Into Abaddon (CD)
Oakland's Saviours have found a way to synthesize the best of their native Bay Area, from Metallica to Blue Cheer to High on Fire, while coming up with a sound that's completely their own. Into Abaddon riffs on the style and sound of '80s British power metal (Maiden, Priest), but leavens the hysterics with thick spoonfuls of classic doom. Austin Barber's weathered, Lemmy-esque vocals keep the tunes anchored to the cracked earth, while nimble fretwork lets the band show their considerable skill. Saviours have found an elusive sweet spot where decades of metal overlap in a satisfying orgy.
