So this is Manfred Mann's Earth Band circa 1980. The difference from The Roaring Silence (1976), let alone Solar Fire (1973) is notable, but there never was a sudden big change. Actually, The Roaring Silence and its more MOR follow-up Watch (1978) are better than their predecessors in my opinion. Chance is even more MOR, and even in an '80s way, but that still doesn't make MMEB completely MOR or the style completely 1980s. Actually, if stripped off that slightly annoying hard rock guitar that has stolen some of the accompanimental soundscape, Chance might be very typical late 1970s Manfred Mann's Earth Band. And while the style of the band had been changing anyway, I guess this album is quite typical MMEB anyway.
