The 2nd Law is balls-to-the-walls mental. It's impossible to describe it briefly: its mixture of pseudo Bond-themes, dubstep, power ballads, 80s slap bass funk rock, straightforward pop songs, electronic dance elements, operatic vocals, energetic rocking and riff salads is downright bewildering. It's an album that refuses to make sense, throws a great big middle finger to the sheer concept of cohesiveness and is prone to cause heart attacks among any who pretend the band disappeared after Absolution. Somewhere along the way Muse transformed from reasonably angsty, darkly-driven rockers into a band with no limits and an endless desire to test that, becoming a certifiedly insane group of incredibly talented musicians who firmly believe they can pull off anything if they want to.
