The eleven songs on Nadler's eighth album were mostly written on tour and recorded with producers Justin Raisen (Angel Olsen, Kim Gordon, Charli XCX) and Lawrence Rothman. The result is such a wonderfully melancholic work, which comes across as dark and intimate as usual, sometimes seeming fragile, only to release a hypnotic strength
The songs are mainly carried by Nadler's crystal clear voice, which on the album receives renowned vocal support from Angel Olsen, Kristin Kontrol (Dum Dum Girls), Sharon Van Etten. Musically the singer is accompanied by Hole and Juliette and the Licks drummer Patty Schemel as well as Mary Lattimore on harp, Janel Leppin on strings and saxophonist Dana Colley (Morphine).
