The last album by Irish blues guitar virtuoso Rory Gallagher was a big pleasant surprise to my ears as I must confess. It's everything but the same old hard rocking blues he played during the most time of the 80's. It's less hard but more bluesy for sure, but first of all it's played much more affectionately than anything he did during the previous decade. There are lots of tricky shuffled drum patterns for example, and the whole performance is quite groovy in general, aspects which make Fresh Evidence a very interesting and enjoyable listen. Besides that, the songs represent a rather wide range of blues (rock) styles that even contains one song which sounds almost like delta blues. Definitely a new direction in Rory Gallagher's career and a real pity that he couldn't continue it furthermore.
