Scars on Broadway is the long-awaited project from System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan. While System of a Down was on hiatus, Malakian (like his bandmate Serj Tankian) felt the urge to keep the creative juices pumping. SCARS ON BROADWAY is the heavily melodic result. Sounding much tamer than its mother band, Scars on Broadway is an exercise in musical hybridism, blending elements of punk, alternative, and new wave music, while cleverly retaining the trademark System of a Down cynicism. Some songs, like "Stoner Hate" and "Chemicals" even bear resemblance to System of a Down outtakes, with their quick-witted wordplay and metallic crunch.
