Southern Nihilizm (CD)
Few albums come graced with a title as descriptive as this one. Yes, this nasty ass quartet does indeed hail from the south, namely Houston, TX. And they do in fact deliver some sonic nihilism. For the ignoramus, Merrian Webster defines 'nihilism' as 'a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and that existence is senseless and useless'. In other words, Bahimiron is with these nine tracks hell bent on saying 'fuck you' to whatever it is that you believe as long as you go to church. And if you wear a tie, dude, existence is fucking futile, didn't you hear that? Life sucks. There is no point to it. We shall all just quit our jobs, tell our families to take a hike, listen to Bahimiron and slit our wrists to that song "War, Whiskey, Sodomy". Of course, this last deed must be executed while we practice/drink/practice what the song instructs. It's a damn fine philosophy to go by, if you ask me. I shit you not. To the blasphemous music; the guitars of Krag Dagon are sharp enough to gut you out from afar. They are South Beach diet thin and come nicely complimented by the fucked paced drumming of Blaash. Completing the lineup is French expat JenOcide (get it?), whose string presence shines for her absence. Hey, this is fucking black metal, a genre where low bottom fatness is nearly an insult and like, totally 'untroo'. It is not until the title track that we hear her finger's work and you know what, it gives the music unheard depth. I think more black metallers should go for this. Leading Bahimiron is Grimlord, a dude that wanted to wear corpse paint but surely, didn't really bother with a design. Southern Nihilizm is Bahimiron's second full-length. Like is the costume with many cult black metal bands, that does not mean they are new to this dark trade. With a few splits, a 7" and a couple of demos on their discography Bahimiron's latest comes as a slab at dirty sonics and chaotic playing. Sloppy and choppy to the max the songs evoke the genre's early days of a musician's beginner's proficiency. Particularly appealing is "A Shank in the Guts", where the band for moments sounds as if they are playing while watching the news or some
