"The End" is the second album by Swedish 'Epic Viking Doom Metal' duo Ereb Altor, formed as a side project by members of doom metal band Isole. The album itself is heavily inspired by the all-Viking, all-the-time phase in the life of hugely influential Swedish metal act Bathory, particularly the Hammerheart and Twilight Of The Gods albums - The End replicates the mid-to-down-tempo pace, deliberately monotonous drumming and ponderously weighty riffing of those albums whilst also blending in more traditionally doom-like elements. In fact, so closely does The End hew to the fundaments laid down by the works of Bathory's Seth Quorthon that it occasionally borders on outright plagiarism - but if we can forgive bands like Aborted and General Surgery for taking up the template laid down by Carcass' Symphonies Of Sickness album, surely what is in effect a Bathory tribute band should get a pass.
