The songs on the '68 album 'The Turtles Present The Battle Of The Bands' (released in Germany as Elenore) sounded as different as if they had been recorded by different bands. Other singles released were 'Elenore' and 'You Showed Me'. In 1969 the album 'Turtle Soup' was released, produced by Ray Davies of the Kinks 'Wooden Head', the Turtles' final album, was released in 1970 and they split soon after. Volman and Kaylan played in Frank Zappa's group The Mothers of Invention from 1970 and also performed Turtle songs there. First under the name The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie, and because they were no longer allowed to use the name Turtles, then as Flo & Eddie.
