Back To The Music = LP = (LP)
The history of Mass goes back to 1973, when Günther V. Radny (the V. stands for Viktor) started the formation Black Mass with singer Josef Hartl, guitarist Walter Speck and Swiss drummer Charles Frey (now known as Akron). After Speck dropped out due to psychological problems with fatal consequences, he was replaced by Saarbrücken guitarist Gerd Schneider, who had previously played with Scorpions drummer Hermann Erbel aka Herman Rarebell in RS Rindfleisch
Schneider, however, had to leave after a year due to massive drug problems and was replaced by English guitarist Mick Thackeray (The Merseys), who played in Switzerland with the Slaves and Countdowns, and in Munich with Abi Ofarim. At the same time, Johannes Eder, coming from the English band I Drive, replaced drummer Frey, who, according to Radny, had "gone on a book trip". In addition, the band name was shortened to Mass. With this lineup, MASS recorded an album in April 1975 at Studio 7o in Munich with Dave Siddle at the mixing desk, who had worked with the Beatles, Jimy Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Animals and Deep Purple, among others. Due to singer Josef Hartl's drug problems, this album was never released. Unfortunately, these tapes are lost to this day. But that was not enough of the troubled times: A year later Hartl (drug problems, died in 1998) and Thackeray (excessive alcohol consumption), had to leave. With Detlef "Dave" Schreiber, who had come from Berlin, as the new guitarist, the formation was stabilized as a trio for the first time in 1976. in 1977 the album "Back To The Music" was released by United Artists Records (Hawkwind, ELO, Don McLean)
