As a dynamic version of signature tune Parisienne Walkways proves, he was at his best when peeling off an overwrought guitar solo and gurning like a man having electro-convulsive shock therapy. Better to remember him that way. Reissued with DVD bonus from much-missed guitar great, his soul shines through on cuts taken from both his rock/metal and blues templates. The DVD adds 19 minutes of Gary talking us through 10 clips, including another moment of guitar heaven in The Loner. A fitting testament.
