The album, released in 1973, helped the band gain international popularity, mainly thanks to the hit single and long-running hit "Radar Love". Moontan is still the band's most internationally successful album and paved the way for the Dutch rockers to the U.S. (where "Candy's Going Bad" was also released as a single). At the time of the album's release, Golden Earring was touring in the States with supporting acts that would become major rock bands just a few years later (Aerosmith and KISS). They also shared the stage with names like Led Zeppelin, The Who and Pink Floyd. At the time, The Earring's lineup consisted of Barry Hay, George Kooymans, Rinus Gerritsen and Cesar Zuiderwijk, with special guests Eelco Gelling (slide guitar), Bertus Borgers (saxophone) and Patricia Paay ("lady vocal") on this particular LP. The record combines progressive epics and heavy rockers, sometimes even both elements in one song. Moontan is not only a must for Golden Earring fans, but also for everyone interested in the adventurous rock of the seventies.
