Sweden's Silent Call bust on the scene in 2008 with Creations form a Chosen Path, a strong representative of Scandi melodic metal. By necessity, the sophomore follow up would have to be equal to if not surpassing this accomplishment. This year's Greed finds Silent Call doing exactly that. With this work, Silent Call cements their melodic metal credibility, but also develops it with some different angles. Charging from the gate, Every Day and I Am My Nation show Silent Call adding some more heaviness to their arrangements, yet also some progressive notes throughout. All that Might Be and Falling from Grace show that Silent Call can blend effortlessly their bombastic melodic metal with a vein of the progressive. Yet, even so, at the very root of Greed is pure melodic metal as Through the Endless Night and When the Angels Call Your Name testify. Of particular interest is the keyboard work of Patrik Tornblom which is much more demonstrative and astute on this recording than the previous. In the end, on Greed, Silent Call succeeds with a significant and entertaining sophomore release that demonstrates proficiency and progress. Very recommended!
