Winter (CD)
"Her is voice is a dream!", "Crazy playing technique", "Perfection", "Damn, that's cool!" are just a few of the countless YouTube comments on the songs of Texas progressive metallers Oceans Of Slumber, whose singer Cammie Gilbert has turned the heads of many a music lover out there. Like the similarly positioned middle Opeth, this newcomer sensation combines extreme metal influences, especially from death metal, with doomy heaviness and classic rock elements as well as a lot of soul and melancholy. The influences are underpinned by the beguiling "Nights In White Satin" cover or the reinterpretations of songs by Candlemass, Emperor, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd on the previous "Blue EP". But their true brilliance of multiplying metallic power with feeling finds its climax in pieces like the dramatic "Winter" or "Suffer The Last Bridge" and should immediately appeal to fans of daring, atmospheric prog metal.
