Very welcome reissue of Chicken Shack's first album from 1968 from the very fine Talking Elephant label. You get three bonus tracks - a couple of "B" sides and their first single "A" Side - "Its OK With Me Baby" and sleeve notes from album producer, Mike Vernon. Now for those of you who do not know, Vernon and his brother Richard founded the Blue Horizon record label in 1966 and on the strength of Fleetwood Mac got a distribution deal with CBS. Mike Vernon then signed Stourbridge band - Chicken Shack. I am not sure why the blues - at that time an ignored musical form in America should have appealed so much to British kids but it did - a universal language I guess. Now, "40 Blue Fingers, Packed And Ready To Serve" is no obscure relic from the 1960's - remember this album got to number 12 in the UK album charts and along with their label mates, Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack were a very successful band for Blue Horizon. They featured Stan Webb who was and hopefully still is an excellent guitarist and showman.
