Hypothetical = Definitive Edition = (CD)
There is very little difference between this new edition and the Limited Edition version from 2001 on Inside Out. However, for those that only had the regular first pressing of this release you will want to get this Definitive Edition because it has the expanded 24 page booklet with more photos and producer notes. This new one contains the 3 live tracks from Hypothetical that were included on the now out of print 2002 Concert In Paris as bonus tracks. Of course the acoustic version of "Life Flow" that was included with the 2001 Limited Edition from Inside Out is not included here, nor are the enhanced media elements. Sound quality is similar, yet the new one comes with a full cover art slip cover as opposed to the "picture frame" version from Inside Out. For fans that don't have the 2001 Limited Edition or don't have the Concert in Paris independent release this new Definitive Edition is essential. Regardless of how most people in the metal community thought about this band's prior works - which were all incredibly good - this was certainly the release that caught the attention of critical listeners worldwide. Often described as the UK's counterpart to Dream Theater, this band brings forth a huge slab of commercial progressive metal here that is just as credible and as equally enthralling, yet as original as anything by the aforementioned champion of the genre. There may not be the gut wrenching riffs of power, yet the power that emanates from the speakers is formidable during the heavier sections. This is soft and lush on the ears because the vocal harmonies, much like with Shadow Gallery, are so omnipresent and divine. The velvety production quality doesn't hurt either. Amazingly, despite all of this, West's keyboard runs are more dominant, majestic and bombastic than ever. Just about every song has an ethereal intro or outro or bridge that has been electronically enhanced by West. On previous albums we have not heard the drummer play too much o
