Ab Ovo = Digipack = (CD)
It sounds awesome, no need to pull out the thesaurus to impress, these guys will do it for you. However, the singing, as a whole, has a tendency to descend way too much into Ozzy territory. Like, read that literally, it's not an exaggeration, it's not a symbol, it's not an analogy, it sounds like Ozzy provided the vocals on this entire album. Now, that might not be bothersome for some readers out there. Maybe you like that kind of thing. The good news is, this guy can sing, it just sounds like it's someone else entirely. There's no real 'self' to the vocals, they draw their very being from another style, another era, to the point that this aspect of Ab Ovo sounds dated. At times, they work, mixed with modern effects and atmosphere, but in general, and throughout most of the tracks, they're a little grating to the senses. We like classic, sure, and we like it even more when it's updated. But some aspects need to stay in the past, and the vocals on this one have a bite that's decapitated one too many chickens over the years.
