Conceived in the winter of 1999, The Box is an album 10 years in the making. Running at just over 2 hours in length, The Box tells the fascinating story of Jason and his mysterious journey through an alternate reality. Musically speaking, the album explores a variety of genres, from the Genesis-influenced progressive/symphonic rock of the 1970s, through to the present-day 'new prog'/alternative musings of bands such as Dream Theater, Muse and It Bites, amongst others. Other genres (classical, experimental, rock) are fused together to create fresh and interesting soundscapes, adding further colour to the album. The album relies heavily on the use of electric guitars, synthesizers and vocal harmonies, resulting in extensive, ever-changing and sometimes dreamy musical passages.
