East-West = LP = (LP)
Good and mean blues with Bloomfield taking on some covers and standards. I especially like Get Out Of My Life Woman and the slightly jazzy Work Song. But offcourse the title track is the reason this album is so heralded. And its not "rather remarkable" or such. Obvoisluy, its INCREDIBLE remarkable. Most psychadelic bands could only dream about doing something as intense. And this was in 1966! A friend of mine described it like being thrown into Apocalypse Now, he didnt like it, but i can totally see where that comparission comes from. Based on the pattern of indian raga, it starts really aggressive, then slows down and starts to reflect upon itself. Bloomfield plays the guitar of his life and the interplay between him and his bandmembers is sick. Wow, when the harmonica kicks in! Truly an brainmelter!
