The Feeding Of The 5000 = Papersleeve = (CD)
Punk as fuck, this. Crass have fascinated me since I first started reading up on them my freshman year of college, even though I didn't decide to start listening to them until tonight. Not only did they sing about anarchy, they lived as anarchists in a commune, distributing literature, using violent imagery to put forth a message of peace, displaying black and white videos full of surreal, Dadaist imagery at their shows, and giving themselves truly badass stage names, namely Penny Rimbaud, Steve Ignorant, Joy de Vivre, and (my favorite) Eve Libertine. They sang songs about how awful organized religion, sexism, capitalism, racism, war, and political and social conservatism were. They promised they'd break up after five years, generally around the time most bands reach their peak, and unlike a lot of others who made similar promises, they actually followed through on it.
