One of the most sought-after albums of Swedish death metal, and rightly so!
Therion's relatively unknown beginnings as a "standard" death metal band seem to be misunderstood by many metal listeners. Although the general consensus seems to be that "Beyond Sanctorum" is simply "straightforward death metal" while their later releases are neoclassical in style, upon closer inspection it seems the opposite is true. Although "Beyond Sanctorum" mainly uses instruments and performance aspects of standard death metal, the songs are composed in a style more akin to actual classical music.
