Damn The Torpedoes (CD)
1979, in my opinion, was a great year for music, particularly British new wave, post-punk music. I understand that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were popular in the U.K. before they established themselves as a 'big' American act. On a documentary recently, they claimed that this album was produced after one or two successful tours of the U.K. where they rubbed shoulders with the likes of Elvis Costello and The Clash. I believe they said that their experiences with the punk / new wave scene inspired them to produce this album which they describe as being quite 'edgy'. Not so in my view, this is a middle of the road rock album.
