'Life' will forever be known as the album that slipped through the cracks; "Dance to the Music" had just burst Sly & The Family Stone out in the open, and the 'Stand!' LP of 1969 all but solidified the group's stature as groundbreaking, hit-making and funky. If anything, 'Life' captures the Family Stone at its most ecclectic. It's far more creative than the 'Dance to the Music' album, but less groove-based as the band's debut 'A Whole New Thing'. Sly opened his bag of tricks on this one...
