Pirana II = LP = (LP)
A menacing guitar/bass unison line and spaced-out organ waves unhurriedly set an undulating groove on the opening "Pir'ana" where a sensual fuzzed guitar later intertwines its phrases before the band sets in an up-tempo Santana-like mode as the percussions join in, a vibe the band further and more intensely explores with very capable Gregg Rolie like organ and Santana-esque guitar solos on "Then Came the Light" as the drummer bangs his kit with an almost Michael Shrieve like exuberance; although pigeonholed as mere Santana clones, a classification I wouldn't dare deny, Pirana - at the time of this recording comprising guitarist/vocalist and main composer Tony Hamilton, bassist Graeme Thompson, drummer Jim Yonge and Hammond B-3 organ player Keith Grieg - who had replaced the departed Stan White, who guests in just one number - and a pair of guest percussionists that determinedly contributed to the Latinized percussive barrage -the band also penned some nice melodic Rockers and above all radiated a blend of energy and joyfulness in their playing that make it a very worthy listening
