Maybe one of the first truly brilliant albums from Milton Nascimento - a set that builds on the excellent previous work by the singer/songwriter, but which also has him moving into much more soulful territory as well! Nascimento's work is one of the true treasures of Brazilian music of the past 50 years - and here, it finds a perfect place between larger arrangements, jazzy inflections, and some earthier instrumental touches that keep him tied to the earth - a really careful balance of modes that Milton would not only explore more deeply on key albums to come, but which would become a touchstone for a whole generation of artists as well. The arrangements are wonderful - done by Luiz Eca (of Tamba Trio fame) and saxophonist Paulo Moura - and songs include originals by Milton, plus titles by Dori Cayammi, Toninho Horta, Fernando Brant, and Marcio Borges.
