Aarteeni, Juokaamme Likööri (CD)
M.A. Numminen is a pioneer of Finnish of underground and electronic music from way back. He's also quite ugly and has an irritating nasal voice, squeaking out high notes like he was going through puberty. On this seminal album from 1972 M.A. interprets German and American jazz of the 1930s. The big bands behind our intrepid vocalist play it straight - except that the trumpet parts are played with mandolins and the saxophone parts with accordions, and cellos and violins are employed. The lyrics are twisted translations or even more twisted originals, and it all sounds absolutely ridiculous because of M.A.'s delivery. There are three Glenn Miller covers here which no Miller fan should own: "Kuutamoserenadi" ("Moonlight Serenade"), "Tunnelmassa" ("In the Mood"), and "Pieni ruskea ruukku" ("Little Brown Jug").
