Debut albums for many bands, particularly metal bands, tend to be a little rougher, weirder, and more risk-taking than their later works. Riot was the opposite - they had an extremely polished and confident sound from the start, but their songwriting tended to be slightly generic and would improve a lot by the time they recorded their classic Fire Down Under.
