Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa is easily the best Cradle of Filth album since Midian (2000). The Filths spent a whole decade trying to redefine their sound, ending up sounding like a more "Gothic" side of At the Gates with a few elements from the band they used to be in the 90's. Their mid-00's albums almost destroyed what they had built up to that moment and the band was struggling to keep its position among the rest active Black Metal legends. Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa is the excellent Symphonic Black Metal album we were expecting from the band. Atmospheric, bombastic, narrative, ready to spread its black wings around you and absorb you into its endless void. So, if you once liked the band this album will (possibly) make you regain your faith in them.
