Gareeda (CD)
Most striking about this cd is that there is a Clutch-like groove on it from start to finish. A bit more hardrock and a bit less swing, but still enough to get most metalheads moving. Take for instance 'A Hundred Quid An Hour': a typical Gareeda song. Uptempo, with strong boogie riffs and - but this is the odd one out on the album - a surprising time change. This brings us immediately to one of the lesser qualities of the cd. Besides the already mentioned lack of originality, the general uniformity is the main problem. All songs sound alike, played in the same tempo, with the same chords and the ever-present references: Clutch, Orange Goblin, Church of Misery and Black Sabbath (watch the riff in the rather bland 'Leather Balaclava'). Not coincidental, the best tracks of this album are the ones where things are a bit different than usual. The instrumental 'Lassies Like You', combining slow grinding riffs with a menacing built up towards a feedback-laden finale, is one of them.
