Høstmørke = LP = (LP)
Hostmorke is what folk metal should've modeled itself after. Not the shitty pastiche of it like what most became, it's a metal record with a real folk spirit to it, a sense of earthen Scandinavian melody applied to black metal technique. Alongside some of second wave BM's penchant for nonresolved minor-key melody. The best comparison I have for this is if Darkthrone's Panzerfaust had been an album mostly made up of songs like "Quintessence"; by and large the riff shapes here are clearly Hellhammer/Celtic Frost-influence - but again, melodically leaning toward Norwegian folk. The bulk of this record is some mighty shit, earthen, effortlessly heavy and slides along as well as any Norse BM record from around this era. Fenriz's vocals on here are mostly just belted out and while it's kinda awkward at times, he's got a charm to his voice that suits the tunes; an album like this shouldn't demand machine-like precision.
