Rocks For Real = Papersleeve = (CD)
They're Italy's answer to Hanoi Rocks and they play in pretty much the same style- punky Stones and Aerosmith flavoured rock that could turn 'em into the nearest thing Italy has ever had to a superstar rock act. They could be bigger than Sabrina one day - and that should takesome doing. Ha-ha! In Alex they've got a man who sings like Mike Monroe, and unlike the majority of his countrymen he sings with only the vaguest hint of an accent. In his quest to make it Atex has been joined by guitarists King Robert Jones and the Mighty Fuss (odd, these Italians!!), bassist Baka Bomb and drummer' Eric Lumen, and they proceed to wander through some playful ropms like 'Heartbeat City', the early Aerosmith clout of 'Bad Loser' and 'Take it For Love' as well as the rockier 'Cat Woman' that shows the power of pussy!
Added to the 'Hangman Jury' style Southern blues of 'Soldier Of Fortune', a storming rendition of Bowie's 'Suffragette City' and the swirlin' groove of King's Promenade' these songs make for one helluva interestin' album to search around for.
Overall 'Rocks For Real' also has the pleas re of boasting a damn good production - virtually close to a miracle occurrence on the Italian rock scene - save for a poor mix on the obviously Hanoi-influenced 'Bangkok (Lovephock)'.
Provided none of the band gets called up for military service the Boohoos could be the best thing to happen to Italy for years.
