Mendoza (CD)
Despite recording for the mega CBS label, Mendoza turned out to be an absolute oddity of the early-70's Swedish Rock scene.A sextet with Anders Hogman on bass, Anders Oestryd on drums, Arne Gustafsson on guitar/flute, Bjorn Larsson on trumpet, Lennart Palmefors on keyboards,/vocals and Rolf Oehlin on guitar, putting out one single and a self-titled LP (1972) with a mysterious figure looking like Frank Zappa on the front cover.A Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde situation here with the first side being the stronger of the two, combining elements from Psychedelic Rock, Pop and Jazz and even sounding a little bit like Kebnekaise.Dominant piano and trumpet, cool organ and some delicious flute parts next to a confident, talented guitarist with many exciting chops.Vocals come in English, clear as a diamond.
