Seconds (CD)
Something of a cult figure within psych-folk circles, Gary Higgins released the legendary Red Hash in 1973, and Seconds is the first album he's released since. Several of Higgins' collaborators from the seventies return for this long-player, which no doubt has much to do with the fact that this sounds so much like he's carrying on from where he left off. However, in addition to great acoustic slow jams such as opener 'Demons' (check out the audacious MIDI harpsichord-driven middle section, if you will), like a freak-folk progenerating Robert Wyatt, Higgins combines frank lucidity with more elliptical elements on evocatively strange pieces like the synth ballad 'Little Squirrel' and the thirteen-minute meanderer '5 A.M. Trilogy'.
