TIME MACHINE is a welcome reissue for the very first recordings by British jazz-funk pioneer Paul Hardcastle. The collection includes the complete recordings of his bands Direct Drive and First Light, issued on a string of rare 12" singles for Oval label. Oval was co-run by Charlie Gillett, the renowned radio broadcaster and writer who contributes sleeve-notes to the package. Direct Drive consisted of singer Derek Green's soulful vocals with Direct Drive (alongside Hardcastle, Mick Ward, Pete Quinton, Bob Williams and Bones). First Light consisted of Hardcastle on all instruments.
