The Human Menagerie = LP = (LP)
Much as in the 1990s the Divine Comedy would add a certain European cabaret charm and a Wildean wit to the Britpop scene, so too in the 1970s did the debut Cockney Rebel release do the same for glam rock. Glam wasn't too far from Brechtian territory already thanks to Bowie, and Steve Harley and company were knowledgeable and insightful enough to spot that connection and really ride with it, producing a range of songs from the languid moan of Sebastian to the cheeky joke of Hideaway to the quasi-prog of Death Trip. Whilst it might be overshadowed in commercial and public recognition terms by lighter, more vapid later works (like Come Up and See Me), The Human Menagerie is one of the true masterpieces and an artistic high water mark of the glam era.
