SEBKHA-CHOTT is a bunch of young French musicians, taking originality in the true sense of the word. Apart from the traditional electric rock instrumentation, one can hear a brass section, some flute parts... And above all, the musicians took the (Good) habit to mix all the musical styles they know. And they know a whole lot ! SEBKHA-CHOTT even created a name for its music: "Mekanik Metal Disco". And this may even not be enough, as the enigmatic "Nagah-Mahdi - Opuscrits En Quarante-Huit Rouleaux" (2006) is packed with salsa, samba, electro, fanfare music, reggae, experiments, classic Progressive rock... These short pieces are packed with energy, enthusiasm and a huge sense of humour. Let's think of Frank ZAPPA, as well as of MAGMA for the musical tension and some atmospheres. The younger audiences may also hear bits of PSYKUP. An incredible album, just amazing ! After this successful first experience, SEBKHA-CHOTT is back with "Nigla(h) - Tapisseries Fines En XXX Strips Et LXXX Trompettes" (2008). This new opus' music borrows from so many styles that it gets hard to define, and the musical context is not easy to embrace. The nervous, sometimes martial, rhythms, the guttural accents, the infuriated and paroxysmic voices still remind much of MAGMA. The brassed and leaping, dark or merry riffs relate to VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, Jean-Paul PRAT or LE GRAND NEBULEUX. There are also raving moments in the vein of ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN, Willem BREUKER or Slavonic music. This music is always moving, affording every bifurcation. Quiet times are scarce, when voices, phrases or snatches from dialogs are scattered among musical themes, creating movie soundtrack atmospheres. Other sequences with grandiloquent, lyrical, female and male voices strongly evoke Kurt WEILL, then music goes on and louder in an exciting and compulsive sonic magma, with frenetic, Frippian and shouting guitar, backed with a metronomic and sharp rhythm section. This shall be either adorable or unbearable. Won't you adore it ??? "De La Persistance De La Mythologie Chottienne En ??? Cycles" (2009) is nothing but the Musea reissue of the very famous, founding, monumental and out-of-stock "De L'Existence De La
