Reflecter = LP = (LP)
Sun Dial's debut Other Way Out is a faithful homage to 60s psych records, and a great one at that. It's amassed a substantial amount of praise for its vintage sound, and rightfully so. Much like The Dukes of Stratosphear, Sun Dial has managed to garner the respect of many underground psych collectors.
While this sophomore release drops some of that underground influence, it also manages to embrace 90s alternative rock quite effectively. This is some pretty stellar shoegaze. While some reviewers seem to think that this detracts from their overall aesthetic, I can't help but disagree. Tracks like "Easy For You" and "I Don't Mind" are great examples of stellar pop songwriting; these sit seamlessly between hard rock and psych jams such as "Reflector", "Tremelo", and the massive closer "Sunstroke/Mind Train". All in all this is a tight, cohesive experience, and a nice progression and change of pace from their debut.
