Nightbringers is a consistent and respectable chapter in The Black Dahlia Murder's discography. It's a massive and aggressive piece of metal, composed and played with the usual mix of fury and precision that's expected of the band from Detroit. On the other hand, the record offers little to none in terms of melody and variation and its relentless and brutal death feels flat and ultimately a bit boring if not obsolete. Black Dahlia remains a solid act but it's time for the band to try something new, broaden their scope and surprise its audience instead of remaining faithful to its formula while retreading past ideas with less and less appeal.
