Justus Ex Fide Vivit (CD)
If you listen to the latest from Israel's Tangorodrim Justus Ex Fide Vivit and think you are hearing some sort of bizarre marriage between cold Darthrone/Mayhem styled black metal and the avant-garde, mind-numbing sounds of early Hellhammer or Celtic Frost, then I'm totally with you and your probably not too far off. This sequel to 2005's Unholy and Unlimited is indeed raw, racuous, and rowdy thrashy black metal, complete with raging guitars, manic blasts, and agonizing vocal shrieks & grunts. The duo of Terno Graderz (drums, ex-Rabies Castro) and Larenuf (guitars, vocals) manage to pull of some impressive pounding here, as their so-called 'alcohol fueled black metal' at times also hints at the punkish brutality of early Venom. The six songs here clock in at under a half hour, so Justus Ex Fide Vivit comes across more like an EP, but it's well worth the ride nonetheless. Tracks like "The Wolves Are Also Coming", "No Light", and the title track alternate between blistering black metal rave-ups to sludge ridden, punky/doomy dirges. It ain't pretty, at times quite ugly, but the end result is a sweaty good time that shows that black metal is alive and well in Israel.
