Time To Gather Seeds (CD)
After five years out of the "limelight," this all-time great folk group re-formed in '68 to make an album for Warner Bros. that reflected the times even as it was not a part of them. Hearing Messrs. Hassilev, Gottlieb and Yarbrough sing protest songs to rocklike rhythm tracks was not what fans of their earlier work had in mind, nor were the longhairs interested in a "square" folk group gone native, even though their idealism and embrace of folk music had paved the way for the politically-charged psychedelia that ruled the day. Needless to say, the album didnt sell but, boy, is it an interesting listen, and an interesting tale, too, judging by Alex Hassilevs liner notes.
