The twelve part BBC Series on prime time Sunday nights has attracted nearly 12 million viewers each week. The album includes several pieces of music from the programme, including the theme music. The main man behind the project, Ashley Hutchings, also led The Albion Band during 1981 when Lark Rise to Candleford was put on at The National theatre. The subsequent album, simply called Lark Rise to Candleford, became both a commercial and artistic legend. Ashley became closely associated with the public with Lark Rise after this and is the perfect band leader to sell this album. In England the phrase "The Guv'nor" refers to the man in charge which certainly is an apt description of Ashley Hutchings when it comes to the English folk rock scene. He has founded Fairport Convention (the greatest folk-rock band in the world), Steeleye Span, The Albion Band and was responsible for the famous 'Morris On' series.
