Ian Gillan, an English rock music vocalist and songwriter, best known as the lead singer and lyricist for Deep Purple. During his career Gillan had a year-long stint as the vocalist for Black Sabbath and sang the role of Jesus Christ in the original concept recording of Andrew Lloyd Webbers rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Over the years he has proved that he has an incredible voice and has been a very influential force in the rock genre. Naked Thunder is his solo album from 1990, released soon after his departure from Deep Purple. It features a varied selection of songs, with one of Gillan's most passionate and impressive performances in Loving On Borrowed Time and No More Cane On The Brazos, a traditional tune. All of the songs except Moonshine (Gillan/Morris/Buckle) and Brazos were written by Ian Gillan and Steve Morris. The material ranges from hard rock that feels a bit like Deep Purple to more balladic sort of works. In fact, one of the ballads on the disc is an incredibly emotional piece that is one of the best tracks on the album. The album was produced by Leif Mases and features a number of guest musicians. The new digipak edition is limited to 1000 copies. Digitally remastered using 24-Bit process, released on a golden disc.
