Live In Japan (CD)
In 1985 Japan was given a special treat from their former WW2 allies in the form of one kick ass live show from the German answer to Judas Priest. Fresh out of the studio, touring on their 6th album "Metal Heart", Accept came to please and left the hall as the glorious victor. The riffs pummeling the audience are so quick that you can try cutting them with a knife, although you probably would only succeed in light scratching the surface in the process. Most of the songs presented on here are drawn from the well of this band's audience friendly, mid tempo rocking catalog. Udo is basically the star attraction with his raunchy as hell screams, all of which miraculously carry about as much melody as they do phlegm. His rendition of "Living For Tonight" is utterly flawless, bringing a huge dose of attitude to an already heavy structure of catchy riffs and rhythmic gang choruses. You could compare this to Brain Johnson's various live performances and not come close to this kind of accuracy, although it might be a bit unfair to suggest that he eat his heart out since unlike Udo's his is made if rock, not metal. The highlight performance is the opening song "Metal Heart"; in fact it's not even close due to the sheer intensity that the song expresses independent of who's performing it. You add to the already menacing, slow paced galloping arrangement and menacing riffs one hell of a crazy guitar solo that rivals Jimmy Page's lead contribution to "Heartbreaker" and you've got a live experience that is beyond compare. Something tells me that after putting out that commercial half album "Turbo", the lads in Judas Priest just might have taken a look at this performance when figuring out what to do lead guitar wise on their return to form "Ram It Down". For a live album this is pretty short. In fact it's more of a live EP than anything else, but it gives you a great idea as to what an Accept concert must have been during their high period. If the Japanese fans screaming their lungs out at the beginning and end of every single song don't tell you, these 6 rocking classics most surely will. It might not have the classic "Fast As A Shark" speed metal in it that many fan
