'333' is the thirrd album by American doom metal band Hour of 13, the brainchild of Chad Davis (all instruments) and Phil Swanson (vocals). The debut and the follow-up 'The Ritualist' showed classic doom metal in the vein of Black Sabbath, Pagan Altar, Pentagram and Witchfinder General. I was particularly fond of the guitar parts on those albums. I'm glad the band continued writing great riffs on '333'. The fact Swanson has a characteristic voice that fits Hour Of 13 is no point of discussion. But to me it's the grooving old-school doom hymns that make '333' a really cool album. The guitar parts refer to NWOBHM legends like the aforementioned Witchfinder General, but also Iron Maiden and Angel Witch. Those influences make Hour Of 13 a mighty fine band. The band clearly shows progress and they're basically a band doom fans can't ignore.
