Guitar Solos = Digipack = (CD)
"Guitar Solos" (originally released on LP 1974) and five tracks recorded in 1988. GUITAR SOLOS was originally recorded and released during Fred Frith's years with the band he founded, Henry Cow (later to become the Art Bears). The dozen-and-a-half pieces feature Frith alone with his guitar (the original tracks are here appended with additional pieces recorded in the late '70s and early '80s). Frith utilizes his guitar's non-traditional sonic possibilities throughout the album. The resulting soundscapes are evocative, restful, nervous, and dense. At the time the album's release, the only other guitarist who had gained any attention for working his instrument in a similar manner was fellow Brit Derek Bailey. Audiences would soon find out about Henry Kaiser and Eugene Chadbourne, two guitarists who also began to explore the sonic potential of the instrument. GUITAR SOLOS remains a seminal work in the field of experimental and improvisational guitar playing.Mojo (Publisher) (2/03, p.91) - "...A masterclass in six-string invention....Fans of Brian Eno's pop experimentation should check this out..."
